New year, new you, new hair… or at least that’s how we’re ringing in 2022. After a long schlep without access to salons, we’re officially ready to change it up — starting with inspiration courtesy of 2022’s biggest hair trends.

From easy accessories to complete colour overhauls, the below is what you can expect to reign supreme over the coming 12 months. The only hard part will be choosing one.

Seeing Red

Gigi Hadid might single-handedly be the one to blame (or credit!) for this, but expect to see red, strawberry and copper shades everywhere as we ring in the new year. Red is also a notoriously difficult hue to maintain, so the fact that salons are back up and running might even have something to do with the trend — either way, we’re here for it.

Prevent unnecessary colour fade with a sulphate-free shampoo, like L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Vitamino Shampoo:

Bye Bye Blonde

According to the internet, blonde hair is temporarily considered ‘cheugy’, so we’re expecting a lot of brunette colour changes as we head into 2022. Hailey Bieber is a perfect example — the perennial blonde shared on Instagram that she stopped dying her hair over the pandemic, and now sports a deeper, shinier shade of caramel. So if you’re sick of bleach and topping up highlights, this might be the one for you.

Maintain a cool, glossy brunette with a shine-enhancing treatment. We love Shu Uemura’s Color Lustre Treatment:

Fringes With Benefits

While not exactly new, fringes are still very much alive and well...but expect to see less ‘French girl’ side bangs and more choppy, wispy, almost-Y2K styles. If you need inspiration, look no further than Bella Hadid.

Shape your bangs with GHD's curve® classic wave wand.

Wolf Cuts

If Billie Eilish and TikTok can’t convince you to get a wolf cut in the upcoming year, no one can. Characterised by choppy ends, a razored fringe and more volume at the top of the head, the ‘wolf cut’ is like 2022’s take on the shag. It works best on medium to fine hair with a slight wave.

Add volume and grip with a texturising mist like Anti Texture Spray:

Ribbons

An unlikely but cute trend we’re calling out for 2022 is ribbons. Whether it’s a big satin bow or a tiny touch on a schoolgirl plait, it’s an easy update on the claw clips of season’s past.

Headscarves

While we’re talking all things accessories, headscarves are also pegged to be popular in the new year. Silk, linen and colourful prints are all on our radar, worn around the head milkmaid style. Perfect for summer holidays, bad hair days or that long-awaited European sojourn.

Try the Leo Lin Frida Silk Scarf or the Rumi Woman Baby Blue Silk Scarf.
