Having grown up in Paris and now living in a local seaside village in Bali, how do your two cultural backgrounds – Parisian heritage and Balinese lifestyle – influence your designs?
“French style to me is about being effortless, which is why my collections usually feature oversized or relaxed fits. These styles are quintessentially French in their understated beauty. But living on a tropical island, I of course find myself gravitating towards lighter fabrics such as cotton-silk blends and linens. There is definitely a nomadic mood to most of my summer collections which I find are definitely inspired by my life on the island.”

What are your favourite pieces from the collection and how will you style them for spring/summer?
“I've always loved wearing a white blouse with high-waisted shorts or jeans, so one of my favourites from this collection is the Henriette Top in off white. It features signature Magali Pascal lace details on a relaxed fit shape that I find is so easy to wear on a day-to-day basis, whether I'm headed to the design studio or out for café with friends.
And the Appoline Maxi Dress in the check print linen has to be one of my favourites from the collection – there's so much volume to the skirt, and the dress features criss-cross straps and an open back. I love wearing linen in Bali as it's a very breathable fabric.”
Speaking of the Appoline range, which is made using linen – a more sustainable fibre and part of THE ICONIC Considered edit, how important is sustainability to your brand?
“I'm very aware about the negative contribution that fashion has on our planet and I feel this has truly been highlighted this year. When I'm designing and creating I try to look for more sustainable solutions within the full supply chain: where the fabrics are from, what they are made from, working conditions, our packaging etc. We always work with natural fibre fabrics, and certified where possible and we're on a mission to eliminate single use plastic completely from our production.
There is of course so much more to be done, but we are moving in the right direction and with every collection we make more conscious decisions and better choices.”
Taking proper care of our clothes helps prolong their life and therefore plays an important role in the sustainability of our wardrobe, what are some important care tips to remember when washing your handmade designs?
“Many of my fabrics are delicate so I always take extra care when wearing any jewellery to avoid the fabric pulling or tearing. I'm very conscious about only washing my pieces when necessary too as it helps all garments last longer.”
