It’s the knit of the season. There, we said it! First on our radars thanks to Katie Holmes’s bradigan, and now entering our work-from-home style lexicon as none other than the sexigan.
Sexigan; noun. | seksːɪɡən | A sexy cardigan.
Enter: the epoch of comfort. For those also working at home, this trend is adaptable to your quasi-professional business up top and sweats below template. The best part? This new age cardigan comes in many iterations. Think exposed clavicles for the off-the-shoulder variety or conjure an exposed midriff for the cropped version. For this reason I’m playing favourites: I’d rather be in the arms of no other jacket category than a cardigan. But if, like me, you struggle to think of more than one outfit orbiting around the new piece you’re lusting after… you’re in luck!

In fact, I probed the most stylish people I know on their sexigan silhouettes of choice and how they’d style it. Voilà: five outfits orbiting around The Knit Of The Season to convince those not already sold (weird. Why aren’t you?).
Eliza, Fashion Content Editor
“Cropped, fitted sexigans are the new t-shirt. Taking me back to noughties and nineties, you might catch me wearing one with my favourite slip skirt, flatform slides, and hoop earrings, just like I did back then.”
Elle, Managing Editor
"An overblown silhouette, with plenty of room to move, this sexigen is the perfect 90s throwback and my new WFH uniform (worn, every day, with these jeans). They call this colour cream, but I prefer to think of it as champagne.”
Ash, Editorial Coordinator
“Cardigans cover a manner of self-quarantine sins (anyone else stockpile chocolate biscuits?), so I look to a cardigan and accessories to elevate my current comfy style. You’ll catch me in my bike shorts and tights. Ahem, tights are still pants thank you very much!f”
Lucy, Social Media Coordinator
“I'm obsessed with this chunky cable knit design that looks like it could be pulled from my nan's wardrobe. I would wear this half-tucked into a pair of loose-fitting straight jeans or even long flares if I was feeling ultra retro. The v-neck means it can easily be thrown over a turtleneck in the colder months and layered with a couple of necklaces.”
And me, Marketing Copywriter
My sexigan of choice is draped insouciantly over my shoulders – elegant yet relaxed. Per my earlier qualm, I settled on intimates underneath as a low-maintenance option, plus P.E Nation performance tights (typical) and androgynous socks that don’t belong. And I’ll be responding to any raised eyebrows with “thanks G-ma, but it’s *supposed* to be like this”, whether they’re over 79 or not.
A modern take on your old cardigan collection? Your new at-home uniform? Call it what you will. The real question is, how will you style the sexigan?
