Thongs have always been a part of the Australian consciousness. It’s almost unnatural to not have owned at least one pair of flip-flops in your lifetime – whether it be your go-to for a quick trip to the shops, just to wear around the house, or to act as a barrier between you and a questionable public shower – we’ve all been there.
This summer however, we’re going to be wearing these footwear classics everywhere. Every time we hit the beach, of course, but what about cocktail hour too? Would you arrive at your favourite rooftop bar in a cocktail dress and… thongs? We certainly will be and here’s how.

@sophiaroe
Take a page out of Sophie Roe’s book and pair some skinny-strapped thongs with a pair of tailored trousers, a black tee and a textured blazer.

@frejawewer
If you’ve got a brunch date, bring out your favourite maxi summer dress and pair it with a pair of comfy thongs or pool slides.

@leandramcohen
Want to wear thongs to somewhere a little more fancy? A lace blouse, some fitted jeans and a red lip is all you need to make your footwear choice feel like a million dollars.

@pernilleteisbaek
If Pernille Teisbaek can wear thongs with a one shoulder pencil dress, tailored blazer and a very on-trend gold chain, you can wear thongs to your next spring occasion.

There’s always a way for you to incorporate comfortable shoes to a smart casual dress code. We’re going to be wearing these shoes all summer anyway, so why not just lean into it?
