How To Wear A Hoodie (Almost All The Time)

Maybe it was the Kendrick effect. Or maybe it was Mark Zuckerberg being all CEO bossman in his black zip-up. Whatever the hype, the hoodie is officially a bonafide #menswear item, not just the throw-on option for skater teens. Streetwear just got elevated so dig deep into your drawer of slump-around stuff and add an old comfy to your daily rotation. Here’s five ways to make sure you get the right kind of ‘looks’ when wearing said hoodie.

1. Sunny Side Up
If you want to stay clear of the 8 Mile Eminem look then beware of black. Instead experiment with lighter colours like cream, brown and mustard. Grey marle is easy to pull-off too. You can add these to other darker elements or get lit with head-to-toe warm tones.

2. Hi/Lo Mix
Street meets sharp. The best way to elevate this look from casual comfs to a more polished vibe is in the layering. The options are endless whether you throw over an anorak, a long camel coat, a more formal black outer layer, plaid or a leather number. The key is keep the fit on point and clean. Baggy stays in the bedroom.

3. High-Performance
Athleisure is the buzzword of the century but hey we’re not complaining. The fact it’s fashionably acceptable to get around in our sportswear at any given time of the day is rad. Add the hoodie to a pair of fitted (key word here) sweat pants and a pair of leather sneakers. Black sweats are fail-safe plus can take you from gym to cafe easily. Fabric for the pull over is important now. Try softer textures with quality yarn. And forget the oversized logo.

4. Fancy Lazy
Hoodies under suits. It’s a thing. And if done right it can give your dress code the right kind of attitude. For beginners try an unstructured suit in one of the many darker shades of grey with a grey marble style hood and swap the work shoes for white sneaks. Crisp AF.

5. Head-to-Toe
Visualise this: coffee coloured hoodie and skinny sweats with a tall tee in the shade of salmon peeking out underneath with grey sneakers. Boom. Colour blocking is a cheat way to nailing it. Let your hoodie work smarter not harder. Again stray from black-on-black looks in an effort not to be mistaken for a roadie.
