Key to Melbourne Vixens’ defence and part of the Commonwealth Games 2018 team, netballer Jo Weston tells us about coming back from injury, the mental resilience needed for the game and staying in peak fitness between seasons…
What do you miss most about netball training with the Vixens?
“Definitely my teammates and how much fun we have. The best thing about playing a team sport is the friendships you make, so I am missing dancing to our workout playlist around the gym.”
What's one good thing ISO has taught you about yourself?
“That although I love training in a group, my ability to self motivate is greater than I thought. Also, that I'm a pretty baker and consumer of baked goods.”
What are the three things you're doing to keep your fitness up during this time?
“I've done lots of walking with my dog Billie, joined in group workouts via Zoom with a few of my friends plus focussed on areas of training I wanted to improve on but never had the time in season; more power but also more flexibility.”
What's your advice to those out there who are missing their team sports?
“To try and connect virtually if you can with your teammates. Also watch old videos of your team playing or having fun to remind yourself of those amazing feelings of participation and how they will hopefully return soon.”
