Always impeccably dressed and now pregnant, who better to ask for modern maternity fashion tips than Danielle Soglimbene, THE ICONIC’s Head Of Style for Mens, Sport and Sneakerhub. Whether working in the office, behind the scenes on set or dialling in on Zoom, Dani’s sense of style exudes effortless cool-girl energy – a mix of baggy, masculine silhouettes often plucked straight from designer menswear labels and balanced with touches of glam, like earrings and kitten heels. Now with a baby on the way and a growing bump to accommodate, we asked Dani to share what maternity style looks like for a new mum, where she finds style inspiration and what’s in her Wishlist for bub.
Has your style changed now that you’re pregnant?
“Not really – I am still loving the baggy look, now I’m just making sure I have my stomach out on show so that it doesn’t get too bulky.”
What maternity outfit makes you feel like your best self?
“Baggy pants, a midi top and an oversized shirt – it’s always easy to style and still looks cool and chic.”
What wardrobe pieces have been the best for a growing bump?
“Overshirts and shirts are heaven sent, they are so easy to add to any look, and when the bump grows, you just undo the buttons. I also love a black leather trench to throw over anything.”
Who do you look to for maternity style inspo?
“Marta Sanchez Castañeda (@martathegout on Instagram) has such a cool maternity aesthetic, which she has always had anyway, but rocking it. Of course Rihanna is always a queen. And I also love Pernille Teisbaek for a clean and minimal look.”
What’s your best maternity fashion advice / style hacks for new mums?
“The bigger the better. Comfort is the key to keeping your style cool – nobody wants to feel restricted and uncomfortable. I think get yourself some good basics: drawstring waistband pants, a great shirt and a timeless coat – either a trench or a regular wool coat that works well for you and one you can add to everything. Also, a cool and comfy pair of sneakers will go a long way! I would highly recommend New Balance as they go with everything.”
What’s in your Wishlist for when your little angel arrives?
“I don’t even know what babies need LOL but I just put some things in there that are for newborns!”
And finally, what’s one thing pregnancy has taught you that you didn’t know before?
“The female body is absolutely magical and amazing. And also to be ok with being slow and kind to your body during this process; a lot of changes requires more sleep and self care than ever and that's super important for pre- and post-birth.”
