There are some men you know you can call on for the how-to. And Joel Foreman – hair guy and all-round legend is one of them. He's done hair pretty much everywhere – Paris Fashion Week, for all the leading mags and, of course, on set for us. So, as we slowly (very, very slowly) emerge from our isolation, we reached out to him to help us through the can-be treacherous world of DIY hair. Below, he shares how we can fix up, look sharp with the do's, don'ts and the definitely-give-it-a-crack.

First: how to cut your hair at home (and not mess it up)
"If you’re a little hesitant to head out to see your normal barber or stylist and are navigating the thought of cutting your hair yourself, I recommend you invest a some good equipment to get the job done right. Great set of clippers, a hand-held mirror and a basic hair scissor and texturised combo will do the trick!
"Depending on the style you’re wanting to achieve will depend on the tool for the job.
"Make sure your bathroom or cutting station is lit well so you can see every detail as you go. If your style is short and sharp use a a clipper guard a size up from your normal go to so you have room to go shorter once you get the hang of it.
"If your style is on the longer side, look at using texturising scissor so it blends your work as you go."

Next: how to shave at home and keep it looking profesh
"When shaving, preparation is the key and the quality of the razor and shave cream is paramount. I recommend using the Ted Baker double edge razor and Triumph & Disaster Old Fashion Shave Cream.
"Start by soaking a towel in hot water and then blot your face. This will soften your hair follicles and open up you pours making the shaving experience pain- and rash-free.
"While you’re blotting your face with you washer let your razor soak in the hot water so the blades heat up.
"Apply your shaving cream to your face and away you go!"

Third: how to style your hair with products that work for you
"Understanding your hair type is really important when choosing the right product your hair. If you’re someone who has a lot of hair you're going to want to use something that has moisture to it as this will weigh you down and not create volume as the day progresses. I recommend using the Patricks S2 shine and finish medium hold cream.
"If you want a little volume and more texture, go with a sea salt spray prior to using a finish product such as the Burly Fellow Seas Salt Spray, this will create a voluminous dry texture that will amplify your style."
And last: how to keep that face of yours looking fresh.
"One of my main routines every morning is getting up and into the ocean. The minerals in the water and the salt and sand is a great exfoliant for your skin and an amazing source of vitamin D. However sometime when traveling I don’t have that luxury and I use a range of skin exfoliant scrubs/ cleansers and always a moisturiser to follow.
"I recommend only using the scrub once or twice a week and a cleanser every other day. This way you’re not depleting to many of your natural oils your skins needs especially in winter.
"I use the Hunter cleansing facial scrub, Triumph & Disaster Ritual Face Cleanser."
