Blame Pinterest and Instagram. How many images of beautiful homes are in your feed or on your boards? How many times have you envied a home but thought, “I can’t afford to make my space look like that!”?
Don’t worry, we have a solution….
Invest in textures (and layers)
Create a luxurious feel to your bedroom and lounge room by layering different textures – linen-look sheets with cotton throws, faux furs and velvet pillows all help to add a feeling of comfort and luxury.
Mix new with secondhand luxury
We all love the Home section of Kmart, but don’t kit your entire house out there otherwise it’ll look like a catalogue. Instead, check out Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace to find eclectic, usually inexpensive items (furniture, artwork, pillows), secondhand and mix up your decor.

Add candles and hand creams
The simple act of spraying room perfume, lighting a candle or burning essential oils can automatically make a house feel luxurious. Pair that with slightly expensive hand soap in the bathroom and you’re halfway there!
Update your fixtures
Even in rentals, replacing cupboard handles in the kitchen and bathroom can make a massive difference. Keep the originals for when you move out, but updating anything that seems old or is damaged will really lift the luxury factor.
Decorate with greenery
Indoor plants are having a moment right now as they are a relatively affordable way of decorating an ugly corner or lifting up a drab space instantly. Choose plants that drape and grow outwards so they cover more space.
