It’s the one-move wonder that’s making its way back into our wardrobe: RN we’re feeling (and wearing) the classic shift dress.
It was the 1960s staple that haunted Andy Warhol’s Factory (thanks Twiggy) and now, this throw-on-and-go affair that’s making a comeback in a BIG way. We checked in with our Head of Fashion, Rachel Evans, to find out more of what they’re looking like. .
“There’s some excitement coming our way this Spring Summer,” she tells us. “Everyone loves a throwback, a retro remix!” And, it’s not just one era but a best-of. “Think 60s mixed back with some classic 90s. I’m a fan of colour and this trend is all colour.”
On her list is Clueless checks, and the classic stripe in a combo of colours. Also trending in her retro remix? Shift dresses (of course) and oversized collars … sometimes even at the same.
So, how are we wearing the shift?

THE PERFECT FIT
“This season the take on the classic shift dress is a more relaxed cut,” Evans says. “Your look could be a college style shift with it looking oversized creating an effortless cool look.”
BUT, WINTER?
And for those shifts buying into the brighter and bolder trend, how can we debut them in these cooler months?
“I’m a fan of styling your shift dress over pants,” Evans tips. “Get creative. Mix your colours, clash your prints. My ultimate style? Layer your shift over your oversized collared shirt and finish your look with an interesting silhouetted coloured heel and a mini bag but don’t forget the chain sunglasses.”
