As Splendour (and the annual leave that will push us into negative) looms in the calendar, our thoughts turn to – of course – the all-important question of ‘what to wear’.
The hesitation remains, though, to roll out dough on something that’s a one-time only affair. Unlikely, after all, those suede short shorts you have your eye one passes the dress code Helen on HR so vigilantly watches. So, how can you be sure you sate your need-something-new hunger with a piece that will work into your everyday wardrobe?
You are looking for pieces that will go the distance, that will not just survive but thrive in the four seasons in one day that are likely to be thrown your way this festival season. So, we’ve done an edit of the pieces that are built to last, sure, but are also guaranteed to go on your daily high-rotation. Great way to get that cost per wear right down (and to be a little kinder to this planet of ours.)

PLAY THE BLUES

PLAY THE BLUES
Denim has long been a festival staple. Hard-wearing and heavy-hitting, it’s your don’t-really-need-to-wash solution. Wear them as is or give them a headstart on summer and cut them into shorts. If this is your gameplan, be sure to follow the grain of the fabric as you slice. Also: if your jeans are loose, draw your line slightly higher on the outside. If you like the cleanline hem, leave it be but if you’re looking for something a little more roughed up, chuck in into the wash with your next load to see a little fray. If you’re after a bit of a side split (great for rolling edges), just unpick a few stitches and pull apart. Once you’re happy with where they sit, throw in a hold stitch and you’re good to rock and roll.
