Retreat to These Cosy Cabin Hideouts

Secluded-feeling but still close enough to town.

Every so often an autumn wind blows in to remind us of a place where everything smells like green and we get that wanderlust look in our eyes. With the cool change come fantasies of crackling log fires and charming wood cabins to soothe our overstimulated souls. Conveniently, our favourite new pieces strike just the right balance between outdoor utility and cosy luxe knits so we’re packing the rucksack and unearthing (just for you) our favourite nature hideouts.

Unyoked’s Wal, Pyrenees Mountains VIC
Off-grid luxe. 2 hours west of the city. So artfully curated is this quaint eco-shack that you won’t want to go home. Wake up in ultra-soft linen, nestled at the base of a mountain range. State Forest surrounds. Help yourself to the gastronomic provisions (as selected by wild chef Sarah Glover). Choc-chip pancakes and steamy Single O coffee. Laced with little rituals to encourage a slower pace of life like hand-grinding your morning brew. It’s all the benefits of an off-map camping adventure but done in serious style (and without the nuisance of packing the equipment). Just bring yourselves (sleeps 2), camper fleece and hiking boots.

Paddock Hall, Tintenbar NSW
Birds, beasts and flowers. This consciously designed farmstead will reconnect you and your clan to nature. Situated 25 minutes from Byron Bay, its sleek modern furnishings and handmade details promise to steal your heart. Better than room service – opt for the catered breakfast by local eatery Harvest with award winning barista coffee and wood fired sourdough. The ultimate staycation seduction.

Liptrap Loft, Walkerville VIC
Our own version of Big Sur. This rustic handmade cabin sits two hours south-east of Melbourne, nuzzled among the grapevines on a remote five-acre property, making it the perfect place for chasing waves and returning home to snuggle up around the indoor log fire. Bonus points for the unusual Japanese bathhouse which seals the stay as one-of-a-kind. Comfortably sleeping six, this is an ideal spot to gather your tribe for boardgames and wine. Explore the local coastline on foot or grab an organic bite at Udder and Hoe.
