August 4th is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. It’s a time for families, communities and all Australians to celebrate the strengths and culture of children – the elders of tomorrow. Passing on stories is an important part of our Indigenous cultures.
Jarjums! (That means kids!) Let's celebrate today by reading a story with proud Wiradjuri woman, Eve White!
Watch, above, and read along with ‘Coming Home To Country’.
As Children’s Ground says, “As the leaders of this fantastic initiative – SNAICC-National Voice for our Children – remind us, hearing children’s voices today plays a crucial role in them becoming influential Elders and leaders of the future.”
Therefore this year’s theme is, “We are the elders of tomorrow. Hear our voice.”
Happy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day!
