Bike riding is one of the many hobbies, along with baking copious amounts of bread and getting behind a pottery wheel, that have become increasingly popular this year, and unlike the latter, it’s easy to see why. Cycling is a great way to keep active and often a more affordable option to get from a to b, but also a nice alternative to catching public transport, especially during these times of uncertainty.
Of course, riding a bike is not just a 2020 trend – we’re well aware there have always been those avid riders clocking impressive kilometres in their aerodynamic spandex suits on the regular, but this article is not for them. This is for the low-key riders, the ones that rarely stray from the safety of dedicated cycle lanes, and enjoy pedalling at their own pace. If that sounds like you, then enjoy our curation of outfits influenced by what we’ve seen on the streets of Copenhagen, one of Europe’s most stylish, bike-loving cities, that will no doubt pair perfectly with your recent vintage-inspired bike purchase.
Remember: it’s not compulsory for the Dutch to wear helmets, but it is required by law for bike riders to wear helmets in Australia – safety first, and then style.

Bike shorts, duh! Make it a full-body suit if you wish, or pair it with a nice top or an oversized tee for a look that’s cool and casual. Heels aren’t recommended, but flat strappy sandals would look just as chic.

Bermuda shorts. If it’s a hard pass for anything spandex, tailored shorts are a convenient option, especially if you’re commuting to work. Cuffs won’t get caught in bike chains and you can throw on a blazer and pumps once you get to the office. Again, cycling in heels is only for the daring, but flat loafers would also look great with this outfit.
