In the near-daily roster of grey marles, denim washes, tried-and-tested neutrals and calls to go back to black, it feels like we’ve lost something. In all this seriousness, it feels like something is missing. In search of calming neutrals, we’ve lost our joy-filled tones. The banana yellows, the millennial pinks, the fire engine reds.

All of a sudden, though, colour is back. It’s an effort to be seen, to be heard, to make a statement. This trend takes 80s power dressing to the next level – it’s EMPOWER dressing. It’s brash and it’s bright. It’s not about blending in, but about standing out.

Forget a pop of colour, we’re talking a complete takeover that’s bold and beautiful. They’ve been dubbed the Crayola brights and rocking them head to toe is easier than you think. Pick one shade and stick with it, go for a palette with plenty of punch.

Even the global authority on colours – Pantone – has laid its decree. And it’s a gospel calling for talk-worthy tones.

“The mindset for Spring/Summer 2019 reflects our desire to face the future with empowering colours that provide confidence and spirit; colours that are uplifting; joyful hues that lend themselves to playful expressionism and take us down a path of creative and unexpected combinations,” declares Pantone in their Fashion Trend Report ahead of New York Fashion Week and the subsequent rosters in London, Milan and Paris.

With names like Fiesta (“a festive orange radiating energy, passion and excitement”), Turmeric (an “enlivening orange”) and the “tantalisingly theatrical” Pink Peacock, the trend is clear. Add in a couple more of our favourites, like Princess Blue, which the authorities at Pantone tells us “glistens and gleams”, or our fave: Mango Mojito whose names scream 'tropical holiday ahead'.
