The super-geeks among us have already watched the movie thrice-over, shared their comic book comparisons and revealed Easter eggs on their dedicated YouTube channels, but you don’t actually have to be a die-hard fan to enjoy Captain Marvel.
For those who aren’t as MCU-obsessed and just wanted to watch a female kick butt in a movie, like we did, then here are just five thoughts that came to mind while watching, that you can probably relate to.

1. Fight like a girl
Every fight scene is empowering for women. From the opening scene where Brie Larson’s character gets fed up with alien Jude Law’s coaching “advice” in their sparring session, to the montages of young Carol Danvers picking herself up and dusting herself off after a rumble with the boys, and of course, at the end when all of that happens (watch and see for yourself if you don’t already know).
2. That soundtrack though
If you didn’t know that the film was set in the ‘90s, then the soundtrack sure set the scene. Plus, nice touch featuring female-led bands like TLC - Waterfall, Garbage – Only Happy When It Rains, and No Doubt – Just A Girl, to name a few.

3. Speaking of the ‘90s…
Wow. We forgot how far we’ve come in terms of technology. Do the kids in the seats next to us even know the repercussions of not rewinding a rental VHS before returning it? We’re annoyed when our internet drops out for a split second but remember the patience we had while we waited for CD drive to even open?
4. Thanks for making cats even more suss
Goose might be an adorable, fictional ginger kitty but regardless, we can’t look at cats the same way now.

5. It’s time we invest in a new leather jacket
Seeing how good Annette Bening’s character looks and feels in a sleek leather jacket, even if just for a split second, is all the inspo we need for autumn.
