Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve surely heard some spicy chit-chat praising the Heartbreak High reboot. A few headlines made prior to the show’s release referred to it as an Aussie version of Sex Education, and yes, there are some similarities, but it has proven to be more than just another teenage drama about complicated high school hookups.
Now streaming only on Netflix, the Australian show has become one of the top 10 most viewed television series globally – within a week of its debut. Simply iconic. We’ve already binged it (multiple times because we’re simply obsessed) and we’re spilling the tea alongside Heartbreak High cast members Ayesha Madon (Amerie), Chloe Hayden (Quinni), Asher Yasbincek (Harper), Will McDonald (Ca$h) and Brodie Townsend (Ant). Here are some thoughts we had while watching Heartbreak High…
1. It’s funny.
2. It’s sexy.
3. It’s kinky – everyone’s into everyone, it’s all going down at that school!
– Brodie Townsend (Ant)
4. It’s very raw.
5. I hope people will like it and that it conveys what we want it to convey.
6. As far as being autistic and neurodivergent goes (because this is the first time we’ve ever seen correct representation) I hope that this isn’t the last time and that other young and autistic people can watch Quinni and finally feel like they have somewhere they fit in.
– Chloe Hayden (Quinni)

7. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!
8. I’m just in awe of everyone.
9. I just feel so incredibly proud of everyone and so honoured to be a part of this production.
– Asher Yasbincek (Harper)
10. Yuck, yuck, yuck! (I hate watching myself!)
11. I’m just really proud of the collective effort of everyone on the show.
12. It felt completely different to when we were filming it – editors have a massive role in creating any series so I think they’ve done such an awesome job.
13. It’s way lighter than I envisioned, I thought it was way heavier when we were shooting it but I love how the show is now.
– Ayesha Madon (Amerie)
14. It speaks to different issues within youth culture in 2022 in a way that hasn’t really been done in many Aussie TV shows.
15. Styling and makeup is fun.
16. Casting is a vibe and feels really genuine.
17. The playlist!
18. The link to past and present was really cool storytelling.
– Danielle Soglimbene (Head of Style, THE ICONIC)
19. The most relatable beauty look in the series is Amerie’s – her strong suit is her eye makeup and she has it down to a fine art.
– Sophie Howe (Beauty Editor, THE ICONIC)
20. It’s giving Sex Education binge-worthiness with the fashion inspo of Euphoria, hints of Atypical and the tiniest bit Highschool Musical Wildcats – I love it!
21. They had me at “wot c*nt”
