11 Things Most Mums Can Relate To

Set a reminder: Sunday 9th May 2021 marks Mother’s Day in Australia. If you’ve ever had to look after a little one, even for a brief moment, you’d have a taste of what being a mum involves, including but not limited to:

1. Singing enthusiastically – in public, in a quiet reception area, over the phone at bedtime while you’re out – basically anywhere.
2. Having snacks and toys in your handbag, just in case.
3. Always having to ask if they need the loo, are they sure they don’t need the loo, then having to deal with them going to the loo wherever, whenever.
4. Cleaning up faeces – that sh*t literally gets e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, not just nappies.
5. Speaking of poo, never being able to do a poo yourself without an audience... until they’re 10 and everything you do is suddenly embarrassing to them.
6. Needing a separate wardrobe based solely on how easy it is to whip a boob out for breastfeeding.
7. Having to whip out your boob on command – mid conversation with a family member, in the middle of a restaurant, on the bus ride home...
8. Not being able to wear white or light-coloured clothing ever again, unless you’re an expert at removing stains.
9. Becoming an expert at removing/hiding stains after realising halfway through your day (or night out if you get one) that you have a little vomit on somewhere on your clothing.
10. Putting on a brave face when checking for monsters and creepy crawlies, when often you’re just as scared of what could be lurking.
11. Feeling incredibly put together even if it’s just because we’ve had a second to quickly shower or even brush our hair for once.
