Pro Hacks To Help You Hit Those Summer Fitness Goals

We asked a PT.

Staying motivated right now is a challenge, so we asked Brandon Ng, @bnfit__ trainer, his top tips to help you hit your summer fitness goals.

What's your top tip for motivating ourselves to achieve our summer fitness goals, whatever they may be?
“My top tip to achieve summer fitness goals is to focus on what's motivating their goals – whether it is extrinsic or intrinsic. Look at your goals long-term, things don't change overnight."

Do you adapt your workouts as the temperature heats up?
“As the temperature heats up, I actually increase the intensity of my training, this is because I like to sweat and feel it really motivates you. I'm also outdoors a bit more, going on long walks and jogs.”

If you're short on time (or equipment) what's your ultimate workout hack?
“KISS. Keep it simple and short. Working on a time-based workout keeps it simple and short. I would say choose a handful of exercises and work for 45 seconds, 15 seconds rest (e.g. for 20 mins). Mix it with upper body, lower body, core and plyometric movements to get the heart rate going. Using your surroundings and utilising what you have to spice up your workout such as stairs or a chair opens up to endless exercises.”

Do you set yourself smaller targets in order to achieve a bigger end goal?
“Yes 100%! Setting small targets with fitness goals is crucial because things don't change overnight. I really believe in training and exercise is a basic foundation of a healthy lifestyle. People often take on challenges for eight weeks, but then what do they do after that? Go back to the ‘unhealthy’ habits?

“You might want to increase the amount you're lifting every week, or how fast you can run 5km. Tracking your progress is crucial because it's an indication of where you're at. Celebrating small wins will naturally take you achieving bigger ‘end goals’.”

What's the one exercise you never skip?
“I would say the good old classic plank. I always finish with core at the end of my training sessions and plank is always in there, whether it is a side plank, high plank or shoulder taps.”
