If I know what love is, it is because of… All the eccentric insta-wedding shots that keep popping up in my feed. The art of the wedding has been revived by couples taking their expression of commitment into their own hands and giving it a new rhythm.

As our romances drift further away from the textbook so too have our weddings got a little less ‘until death do us part’ and way more party-of-a-lifetime.

Minimalist

So subtle yet so badass. Doula Domino Kirke wed Gossip Girl heart throb Penn Badgley at a Brooklyn courthouse on the down-low with an intimate circle of friends and family. The vegan, gluten-free naked cake made with orange blossom, chocolate and lavender was the definition of cool at their casual restaurant reception. Domino wore a classic short lace number.

Exotic rave

After tying the knot in a more traditional sense in London, Poppy Delevingne and beau James Cook transported their entourage to Morocco for a desert rave celebration including another wedding ceremony in the flower garden of the Beldi Country Club. She was a vision of bohemia in a flowing tulle, floral white dress. Her model sister Cara Delevingne dressed as maid of honour in a white lace suit. But it was the bride’s bejewelled bodysuit for the raving reception that stole the show.

Natural flow

Laid-back and elegant was the unofficial theme for Paris Mitchell, one half of fashion label Paris Georgia. Set on the shores of Lake Rotoiti in New Zealand, guests drank negronis and listened to the harp. The bride wore a simple 1920s-inspired slip dress with a cape, black beaded veil weaved into her hair and an orchid bouquet. She privately met the groom before the ceremony to do photos so not to disrupt the flow post-nuptials and walked down the aisle with both her mum and dad by her side. Reception dinner included an Ottolenghi-inspired grazing table and oyster bar.

Extravaganza

Living in abundance, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas hosted an opulent three-day wedding (which also included many, many outfit changes). A cultural melting pot of pre-wedding rituals and love ceremonies including both Christian and Hindu traditions. Most of the festivities were held in Umaid Bhawan Palace, a grand palace in Jaipur and fireworks ensued. From colourful kurtas to a Ralph Lauren mother of pearl dress with 22m veil, the couple’s rich fashion is still a talking point.
