Beachwear After Dark: Here’s How

Party time, excellent.

Welcome to the OC. If there’s one thing TV back in the millennium taught us, it’s that summer is all barefoot beach parties, bonfires and hot love affairs. So as we dip into the merry season we’re here to make sure your holidays look and feel California cool. Forget the backpack with a change of clothes, transcend coastal kicks into a late night dance floor hit with these easy wardrobe hacks. The ultimate uniform for living the dream.

Tropical prints

The blasé artist look is all exotic short-sleeve shirting, chinos, battered vans and (herein lies the secret ingredient) a trilby hat. Think bright tropical graphics. Don’t be scared – the more lurid, the better. The easiest interchange between day and night. Sport a bored look, and keep hands in pockets for the total effect.

Long blazer

Throw it over your buttoned-up polo and Bermuda shorts after a day on the green for an OG look. 1950s gangsta style to be exact. Team it with white sneaks and a polished pair of round-frames (Arthur Miller vibes). This screams intellectualism even if your getting ready regime took less than 5.

Linen trousers

Is the skinny leg dead? Maybe. A loose-fitting breathable trouser in heat-friendly fabric is your new wing man. It automatically dresses up whatever you are wearing be it a simple white tee, tropical shirt (see above) or denim jacket. Belt optional.

Tuck it

Once reserved for school teachers and squares, the classic tuck is getting a total revamp. Only there’s a summer twist. Try it with a pair of long neutral-toned or striped board-shorts with a patterned collared-shirt. Patagonia’s high-performance shorts are equally tuck-friendly. The trick is to do just one part in the front for a quick outfit elevation. A bit of facial hair or grizzle will keep the look rugged.

Soft shoes

A boat shoe or loafer in something soft like suede can take a laid-back ensemble to the next level and make you a respectable guest for any number of festive occasions. Even if you’re still in t-shirt and shorts. For that extra oomph just add socks preferably with an eye-catching print to look like you’ve gone the miles.
