3 Things We’re Doing With Cheese Today

It’s National Cheese Day: may all your dairy-filled dreams come true.

Cheese connoisseurs around the country, it’s time to rejoice. Today is National Cheese Day – and, to continue the long tradition we Australians have of stealing America’s national holidays and claiming them as our own, we are looking forward to all our dairy-filled dreaming coming true today.

Cheese is one of those things that makes everything better (unless, of course, you’re lactose intolerant).

And yes, sure, you’re across the staples. The cheese on toast, cheese on just about every pasta dish you could think and cheese on its lonesome, but here’s a few of the ways we’ll be celebrating this day of days.

Dine out
A number of restaurants are getting their cheese on. Among them, Italian eatery Fratelli Fresh is dishing up “serving delicious bowls of cheesey goodness in the form of Busiate cacio e pepe” – straight from the cheese wheel. For an easy $15 there’s no prizes for guessing where we will be come lunch time.

Chip in for an office cheese plate
This is a fast way to satisfy those cheese cravings without breaking the bank. Get everyone on your crew brings a slice of dairy to share. The perfect way to sate those 3pm cravings.

Get your raclette on
This is a semi-hard wheel of cheese, usually weighing in around the 6kg mark that we apparently have the Swiss to thank for. The cheese is warmed and then sliced over your meal. Typically you’d drop this over the top of a winning combination of potatoes, charcuterie, cornichons and pickled onions, but it truly is a case of choose your own adventure. If you’re ever in Melbourne, stop in at Collingwood’s Smithward for their Rac'n'Mac – a serve of triple-cheese baked macaroni cheese crowned with  crisp yet gooey L'Artisan Cheese Organic Raclette, freshly bubbling under their purpose-built Swiss grill.

However you spend it, have a grate day.
